On Monday, 13th January, 2025, Dutch singer Yves Berendse christened his very own tulip variety, Tulipa ‘Yves Berendse’, during a festive ceremony organized by Tulip Promotion Netherlands (TPN). This unique event celebrates the launch of the 2025 cut tulip season, which carries the theme “Celebrate Your Date!”
The stunning Tulipa ‘Yves Berendse’ is a vibrant red, double tulip with lush upright foliage. Its numerous petals and striking color make it a standout variety, perfect for water-based flower production. Developed by Holland Bolroy Markt in Heiloo, this tulip is a symbol of craftsmanship and beauty. The flower is now officially registered in the prestigious International Cultivar Register of Tulip Names.
A Proud Moment for Yves Berendse
Yves Berendse, a popular Dutch singer known for his hits Terug in de Tijd and Alleen met jou, expressed his immense pride in having a tulip named after him. “It’s an honour to have my name connected to something so beautiful and iconic,” Berendse said during the ceremony.
TPN’s chairman, Arjan Smit, highlighted the annual tradition of naming tulips after notable individuals. This year, the focus is on a new generation of Dutch-language singers, with Yves Berendse chosen for his growing influence and contributions to Dutch culture.
