The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) has launched the Plant Retail Success Initiative to boost plant sales, strengthen garden supply chains, and support retailers. This programme equips garden centres, growers, and manufacturers with consumer insights, e-learning resources, and practical strategies to improve business performance.

With over 30 million gardeners in the UK, the initiative focuses on inspiring customers, increasing repeat visits, and driving sales across plant-related categories like containers, growing media, and fertilisers.

HTA Shares Industry Insights to Drive Plant Sales

Understanding why customers buy plants and how to keep them coming back is key to success. The Plant Retail Success Initiative provides data-driven insights, training, and research-backed strategies to help businesses increase profits.

Fran Barnes, CEO of the HTA, emphasised its importance: “By combining research, training, and industry expertise, we’re giving retailers the tools to grow profitable plant sales. Our goal is to help businesses inspire and support customers, ensuring long-term success.”

The initiative doesn’t just focus on plants; it also supports related product sales, helping garden centres thrive in a competitive market.

The HTA has worked with the Garden Centre Association, industry experts, and retailers to develop this initiative. This collaboration ensures the programme delivers practical, real-world solutions to help retailers succeed.

Expert Knowledge Now Accessible

When gardeners succeed, everyone in the supply chain benefits. That’s why the HTA is making expert knowledge easily accessible.

David Denny, HTA’s Director of Research & Insights, explained:

“This initiative shares real-world examples and ideas that can drive strong sales, even in tough economic times.”

HTA members can download these training resources from the organisation’s website. The materials are designed to be flexible, allowing businesses to adapt them to their specific needs.

With expert knowledge, consumer insights, and a focus on customer success, the HTA’s latest initiative is set to help garden retailers grow, even in challenging times.
