Jersey’s Battle of Flowers, a beloved summer tradition since 1902, faces an uncertain future. Organisers are struggling with financial difficulties, leaving exhibitors and supporters wondering if the 2025 parade will go ahead.
A recent meeting at Grouville Parish Hall failed to provide a final answer. While discussions were held, the event’s £150,000 overspend from last year remains a major roadblock. With time running out, the pressure is mounting to find a solution.
The Battle of Flowers Committee had hoped to confirm this year’s event, but unresolved financial concerns delayed a decision. Chairman Russell Labey admitted that paying off existing debts is the top priority.
“We have to decide very quickly,” Labey stated. “Flowers must be ordered in advance, and time is against us.”
Despite the uncertainty, the event’s website still lists the 2025 parade for 8-10 August. However, no official confirmation has been given.
A newly formed Battle Strategy Group aims to salvage the event. Many exhibitors, including Alexis Marett from St Helier Battle of Flowers, remain hopeful. “There’s a lot of work to do, but we’re determined,” Marett said.
Jersey’s Battle of Flowers Organisers Scramble
The next few weeks are critical. Funding, logistics, and sponsorship deals must be sorted fast. Without financial backing, the event could face cancellation or postponement.
Some exhibitors suggest hosting a Christmas edition if summer plans fall through. Others believe alternative fundraising methods could help close the financial gap.
A final decision is expected at next month’s meeting, where organisers must decide whether to move forward. Until then, the fate of Jersey’s iconic floral carnival hangs in the balance.
