The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) has officially named Lee Connelly, widely known as the Skinny Jean Gardener, as the ambassador for National Children’s Gardening Week 2025. The event, running from 24 May to 1 June 2025, aims to spark children’s interest in gardening, making it an exciting and hands-on experience.
As a passionate advocate for gardening education, Lee Connelly will take the lead in promoting the initiative. His mission? To get thousands of children across the UK involved in planting, growing, and appreciating the wonders of nature.
Inspiring Young Gardeners Nationwide
Gardening has always been more than just a hobby—it’s a gateway to creativity, learning, and well-being. National Children’s Gardening Week is the perfect time for kids to get their hands in the soil, experiment with seeds, and watch plants flourish.
The campaign encourages schools, families, and garden centres to take part in gardening activities while the weather is warm and growth is fast. It’s a chance for young minds to see the results of their efforts quickly, keeping them engaged and excited.
With Lee Connelly leading the way, more children will have access to interactive gardening experiences. His enthusiasm for school gardening will help nurture a new generation of green-fingered enthusiasts.

As part of his role, Lee Connelly will embark on the 2025 UK School Gardening Tour, bringing hands-on workshops to schools across the country. Sponsored by the National Garden Gift Card, the tour aims to reach 10,000 young gardeners, teaching them the basics of growing and sustainability.
The school visits will include:
