The ongoing CAO (Collective Labor Agreement) negotiations for the Wholesale in Flowers and Plants sector have hit significant roadblocks. Nonetheless, the union argues that employee welfare must not be compromised amidst such challenges.

Existing CAO Provisions

The current CAO, valid until September 2024, outlines progressive measures:

  • Work Hours: Full-time employees work 40 hours per week with flexible arrangements for part-time staff.
  • Vacation Rights: Employees accrue 200 hours annually, with additional days for those over 50 years of age.
  • Overtime Compensation: Defined rates, including 26% for weekdays and up to 100% for holidays.

These measures, however, are deemed insufficient by workers facing steep living costs.

The Path Forward for CAO Agreement

To break the deadlock, third-party mediation is being considered. Both sides acknowledge that a revised CAO must balance the financial realities of the wholesale market with employee well-being.
