Operating a 3-hectare greenhouse in Bleiswijk, Hofman produces five cycles of Santini annually. His successful method involves blending cow manure with wood compost and organic material from crop residues. Despite the positive outcomes of using cow manure, Hofman faces challenges due to existing regulations that restrict the volume of manure he can apply. He believes that if policy changes allowed him to use more cow manure, he could significantly boost his crop yields and further improve the nutrient profile of his plants. Currently, he relies on synthetic fertilizers to meet his nutrient needs, a practice he aims to reduce.
