On February 7, 2025, Dutch Tulips Group officially opened the new Wesselman Flowers production facility in De Kwakel. The modern greenhouse spans 35,000 square meters and enhances the company’s sustainable tulip cultivation capacity.
Key Features of The New Location
Wesselman Flowers, known for its commitment to sustainability and innovation, aims for fossil-free production by 2030. The company cultivates tulips without pesticides and has implemented advanced automation to optimize efficiency.
- Equipped with 20 ISO planting robots, each planting 55,000 bulbs per hour.
- Five Furora bunching machines capable of processing 90,000 tulips per hour.
- Space for 4,000 crates of bulb storage.
- Internal transport system provided by KG Systems.
- Financing and project support facilitated by YEALD.

Municipal Visit and Growth Strategy
Before the official opening, on January 28, 2025, the College of Mayor and Aldermen of Uithoorn visited Wesselman Flowers. Alderman Jan Hazen emphasized the importance of this expansion for the region and expressed support for the company’s sustainable ambitions.
Owner Joost Wesselman highlighted that the move to De Kwakel was driven by the need for additional space beyond Roelofarendsveen. Now operating across 70,000 square meters, Wesselman Flowers is positioned to produce 75 million tulips annually.
Grand Opening Event
Customers, suppliers, partners, and colleagues were invited to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. Visitors experienced the tulip production process firsthand and enjoyed an evening dedicated to the tulip, featuring themed floral arrangements, a tulip cocktail, and a special tulip-inspired dinner.
