National Tulip Day is back, bringing joy and colour to the grey winter days. Celebrated on the third Saturday in January, it marks the official start of tulip season. In Amsterdam’s Museumplein, a stunning tulip-picking garden pops up each year, inviting everyone to pick a free bunch. This cheerful event has become a beloved tradition, and in 2025, it’s taking on even greater significance.

A Blossoming Tradition: National Tulip Day in Amsterdam

At the heart of Amsterdam, Museumplein transforms into a sea of vibrant tulips each National Tulip Day. Imagine wandering through a temporary garden filled with up to 200,000 tulips. It’s as magical as it sounds! At 1:00 PM, the garden opens its gates, welcoming locals and visitors to pick their favourite blooms.

The event celebrates the tulip’s deep roots in Dutch culture. It’s also a fun and free activity to brighten up January’s chill. In 2025, National Tulip Day will honour Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, adding even more reason to join the festivities.

Mark Your Calendars: Next National Tulip Day Set for 17th January, 2026

If you can’t make it this year, don’t fret! The next National Tulip Day takes place on 17th January, 2026. Until then, tulips remain widely available from the start of the season.
