Jen Howarth’s journey to starting a flower farm began unexpectedly. A complete novice to gardening, she took up an allotment just before the Covid-19 lockdown. What began as a small project to grow food for her family quickly evolved into a passion for flowers. Over four years, Jen’s allotment transformed from a simple patch of land into a thriving, vibrant space. Along the way, her social media following grew as she shared her journey, attracting over 26,000 followers to her Instagram account, @life_on_the_lot.
In 2025, Jen will expand her vision by opening the Wirral Flower Farm in partnership with Claremont Farm. The site, located in Bebington, will feature a pick-your-own flower experience, set in a beautiful field near the farm shop entrance. Jen said she chose Claremont Farm due to its proximity to her home and the farm’s commitment to supporting biodiversity. She shared her idea with them, and their support has been key in bringing the project to life.

The farm won’t just be a place to pick flowers; it will also promote sustainability and environmental education. Jen plans to create habitats for insects and wildlife and will use organic growing methods that avoid harmful chemicals. The flower farm will offer visitors workshops focusing on the importance of biodiversity and how to protect it.
“The decline in biodiversity is a global issue, and we want to play a role in raising awareness,” she explained. As part of her mission, the farm will help raise awareness of the need for more green spaces and environmentally friendly farming practices.
