Wyevale Nurseries has taken a bold step toward environmental responsibility by earning the Planet Mark Certification for sustainability. This recognition highlights the company’s continuous efforts to reduce carbon emissions and minimize its overall environmental impact. As of August 2024, Wyevale has set ambitious goals for the future, marking the first year of its carbon footprint reporting and certification.
A Commitment to Reducing Carbon Footprint
Wyevale Nurseries, one of the UK’s leading commercial nurseries, is now actively measuring its carbon emissions, energy use, water consumption, and waste creation. According to Group Finance Director Tim Fawbert, the company’s location-based carbon footprint for the year ending July 2023 was 1,043.0 tCO2e, primarily from fuel, gas, fleet travel, electricity, and waste. Fawbert emphasized their commitment to reducing emissions annually, saying, “We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions yearly to halt climate change together.” This certification will now serve as the foundation for Wyevale’s future sustainability strategies.
Sustainability Goals: A 5% Annual Reduction in Emissions
Wyevale Nurseries is also setting measurable goals to ensure steady progress. The company has calculated the carbon footprint of its Head Office, Transplants, Trees, and Container Divisions, setting a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually. This ongoing focus on sustainability not only positions Wyevale as an environmentally conscious company but also as an industry leader dedicated to preserving the environment. In addition to their eco-friendly initiatives, the nursery continues to introduce new plant varieties to their wide product selection. They supply garden centers, local authorities, landscape contractors, and foresters with an array of trees, shrubs, and plants, ensuring their customers also benefit from their sustainable practices.
Wyevale Nurseries’ commitment to sustainability is just beginning, with plans to keep reducing their environmental footprint year after year. Their leadership sets a standard in the horticulture industry, making sustainability a key component of their business.
