The Eastern Regional Final of the Young Horticulturist of the Year 2025 wrapped up with impressive performances from budding horticulturists. The competition, known for highlighting the brightest young talents in the industry, saw contestants from across the region battle it out for the top spot.
After a fierce round of horticultural knowledge, practical tests, and quick-fire questions, Charlotte Hayden from English Heritage emerged as the regional champion. She now advances to the Grand Final in May, where she will compete against the best from other regions for the coveted national title.
Charlotte Hayden Claims 1st Place Victory
Charlotte Hayden showcased exceptional skill and knowledge, securing first place in this year’s Eastern Regional Final. Competing against some of the sharpest minds in horticulture, she demonstrated an impressive grasp of plant science, garden design, and practical horticultural skills.
Other top contenders included:
- Benjamin Reed (Jesus College, Cambridge): Claimed 2nd place with a strong performance.
- William Charity (Markshall Estate): Took 3rd place after a solid effort.
This year’s competition was particularly close, with all contestants showing an in-depth understanding of the field. The judges commended the participants for their dedication, expertise, and enthusiasm.
Grand Final Awaits Eastern Champion
With her regional win, Charlotte now prepares for the national grand final, set to take place in May. She will face other regional winners, competing for the title of Young Horticulturist of the Year 2025.
The national winner will not only earn the prestigious title but also receive the £2,500 Percy Thrower Travel Bursary, enabling them to expand their knowledge with an international horticultural trip.
